Welcome to St. Mary’s National School.<\/strong><\/h5>\n

We are a rural national school located in Cloghan, Co. Offaly. It is in the heart of the midlands, in West Offaly. \u00a0Cloghan is approximately 15 km from Birr along the N62. \u00a0The school is situated in the village, on Castle Street.\u00a0 Our school is in the parish of Gallen and Rynagh and is under the patronage of the Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois.<\/p>\n

We are a mixed school and the current enrolment is 93 pupils.<\/p>\n

History<\/strong><\/h5>\n

St. Mary’s National School was built in 1964. \u00a0The new school was divided in two,\u00a0boys and girls were taught at opposite ends with different teaching staff.<\/p>\n

In 1969, Gallen National School closed and the pupils attended school in Cloghan.\u00a01997, the boys and girls schools amalgamated to form a co-educational national school.<\/p>\n

In 2007, the school was recognised for inclusion in the DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) programme.<\/p>\n

In 2024, our school celebrated it’s 60th Anniversary with mass in St Mary’s Church followed by a celebration of the history of St Mary’s National School.<\/p>\n

D.E.I.S. <\/strong><\/p>\n

St Mary’s National School is a DEIS rural school.\u00a0 This programme provides additional supports and resources to help ensure that every child has equal opportunities to succeed in education.\u00a0 Our staff strive to create inclusive, supportive learning environments that promote attendance, participation, achievement, and student wellbeing.<\/p>\n
