Welcome to St. Mary's National School.
We are a rural national school located in Cloghan, Co. Offaly. It is in the heart of the midlands, close to Lough Boora. Cloghan is approximately 15 km from Birr along the N62. The school is situated in the village, on Castle Street and is close to the park and church.
It is a mixed school and the current enrolment is 104 pupils. There are 4 mainstream teachers, 1 Special Education Teacher based in our school, 1 shared Special Education Teacher and 1 Special Needs Assistant.
History
St. Mary's National School was built in 1964. The new school was divided in two, boys and girls were taught at opposite ends with different teaching staff.In 1969, Gallen National School closed and the pupils attended school in Cloghan. 1997, the boys and girls schools amalgamated to form a co-educational national school. In 2007, the school was recognised for inclusion in the DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) programme.
